Studio 12 Gallery will be featuring Mark
Friday’s On/Off January 15th, 2010 through February 26th,
2010. We will be holding two opening receptions, one on January 15th,
2010 and the other on the First Friday, February 5th, 2010.
Mark Friday’s On/Off exhibition is largely constructed from familiar and
obscure discarded pieces of wood and metal. The work suggests past views
of the future, has vague references to architecture, scientific invention, and
religious iconography. The element of interior light, gives the work a dual
nature. The pieces can be viewed in entirely diverse conditions, depending on
interior\exterior light choices. In a darkened environment, the internal
light sources come alive, enhancing the work's inner structures and in some
cases projecting light patterns beyond their boundaries. In a more typical
viewing condition, external light dominates, enhancing the works basic
structure, color and textures.
