Featured Artist: Elyse Rainbolt
She donned an entire dead pheasant in a recent photo shoot. And since has plucked the bird of every feather for her Spring 2012 jewelry line. Her exclusive “Flare and Lightning” Jewelry is a compilation of mixed metals and reclaimed vintage relics. She is a professional shopper, always bargain hunting and seeking the most statement making pieces for her limited edition, one of a kind, Flare collection. The design aesthetic is highly influenced by the fashions of 1920s and Teens. She uses long deco reminiscent, sweeping lines and contours in the creation of the foremost statement jewelry designs of the year.
Elyse D Rainbolt is the bridge between music and fashion.
HOW? Well if she herself knew I doubt she’d tell you. Though here are a few helpful facts that will scratch the surface of the iceberg:
She got her start on the hot San Diego scene. Her artistic style is whimsical and exhibits a distinct lyrical movement, both in line and conception. The strong and vibrant role music plays in her expression is apparent in her rockstar-esque, Warhol reminiscent, screen prints. She worked upstairs from a record company in San Diego and was, by default, always in attendance at the latest concerts and events. She has met and interviewed many talented artists and has published articles and interviews on her website. She has a developed a highly refined musical taste that she implements when DJing. She is also a notorious party planner, hype poster creator and flyer designer. Her work includes everything from band merchandise to album covers for bands. She is constantly calling upon her muses, tragic femme fatals, rock stars and classic leading ladies from the golden era of film. She uses images of strong female icons such as, Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, Janis Joplin, Clara Bow and Louise Brooks.
Come walk across the bridge she has extended to you and dance in her world of music, fashion, and fun.
“I secretly wanted to look like Jimi Hendrix.”
My illustration & textile design, which I describe as Deco-Nouveau meets the 1960’s with a dash of 1991, stems directly from Peter Max & The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine. I love the mixture of music, art & fashion, & strive to recreate the eras I missed out on in my glass work, silk painting & illustrations, with song lyrics setting the tone of each piece.

I am so happy to have a showing at Studio 12 in the Santa Fe Arts District. My work is very organic and deeply inspired by molecular images of plant cells. I want to create illustrative landscapes that are abstract, but allow the viewer to enter the picture plane as if it were a real land. I also enjoy playing around with bicycle and sock monkey images because they often times pull on the heart strings of the audience and remind them of something they have seen or done. I make my own paint from chalks and gesso and I also use graphite, ink, colored pencils, and acrylics. I use yarn and paper a lot in my work and I am obsessed with painting on salvaged wood that I find in my neighborhood. The wood is repurposed and gives me great textures to work with. I love using simultaneous contrast and every piece I make has it. Color and composition are everything to me and texture often comes with the substrate. I want to move people with my work and provide an escape from the world that is often times very dark and unforgiving.
